Fairy tales always carry a strong element of the extremely strange and downright scary.  Here’s an example.

A beautiful young woman in a sheer flowing white gown alights from her golden coach onto a flowery velvet green lawn.  An enthusiastic blonde haired little girl rushes forward to present her with flowers.  The little girl casts a backward glance as if seeking reassurance that she is carrying out her duties correctly.

Swans glide by on the blue waters of a slow moving river and green fields stretch into the distance to a fairy tale castle.  High purple hills disappear into the far distance.  A blue sky covers all.  A majestic tree frames the scene along the left hand border.

But the scene is so far from reality as we know it.  It strikes no sympathetic chord.  It just looks slightly absurd and somewhat sinister.

 Just like a fairy tale.
