A complete contrast with the previous desert scene, here is a memory of the view out the plane window when flying back into New Zealand. It nearly always looks like this as flights from the Northern hemisphere seem to invariably arrive early before the sun has burnt off the misty overnight clouds that form above this thin, remote pencil of temperate Southern land set between two mighty oceans.

Two meandering rivers catch the early morning sun and a few signs of human habitation are visible against the green landscape – most noticeably in the small township in the bend of the river in the bottom left section.   Such are the first impressions of those who have traveled here from the far side of the world.  There are those to whom the advent of instant communications has turned the world into one big global marketplace. Superficially maybe, fundamentally no.  This country remains in many ways green, remote and clothed in mists.
