No. 314   ALPINE VIEW WITH PARROT
14 " W x 22 " H,  36 cm W x 56 cm H
Material   Acrylic on Canvas
Artist   A.H. Clemens & A.L. Clemens
Painted   January 2003,
Waiwhetu, Lower Hutt, New Zealand

A fantastically coloured parrot, painted entirely by Stacey, glides across the painting on outstretched wings.  To the right are enormous  flowers and succulent green leaves.  The window is open and the crisp clear mountain morning air floods into the room.  The sun’s rays play on the light frost that has not yet melted from the crosspiece in the window.

Yet the dark haired woman in a floral blouse appears to be looking down into the plummeting depths rather than upwards at the magical soaring bird or at the luxuriant flowers.  Her posture suggests sadness rather than exhiliration.

Can it be that a harsh life or familiarity has already dulled her senses to the wonder that goes on all around.
